A few en'vars after Darius got Rany, he met a woman named Talarie Or, he soon claimed her as his free companion. Once Larie got to know Rany, she claimed the child as her own.

Rany loved her new mother dearly, but was convinced she would grow up to be a boy and not a girl. This was a constant struggle for Larie, trying to convice the girl she was a girl and would not grow up to be a Warrior like her adored father.

As Rany began to change into a teenager, she soon realized just how right her mother was. She donned those hated veils and robes and struggled to become a proper free woman like her mother had been trying so hard to train her to be.
It was discovered at a young age that Rany was a very talented artist. She painted murals in the Laura clinics. She always carried around a sketch pad and was known to stetch warriors as they sparred, or even as they just lounged around and spoke.

Rany hated to sew or embroider, she couldn't cook, nor would she do many things proper free women did. But she could sutur up a wound, make her own salves, and enjoyed sealing bleeders and diving into a wounded man's guts.

Because of this, she became a healer.
